ACNM With women, for a lifetime ™ Commendation

This honor recognizes midwifery services and education programs that have provided innovative and compassionate midwifery care to families, expanded access to women's health care as provided by certified nurse-midwives and/or certified midwives, educated midwifery students, and put the heart of midwifery into practice.

How to Apply

Send a description (2 page maximum) of how your service or education program meets the following criteria to your ACNM Regional Representative:

Every midwifery practice /ACNM DOA accredited midwifery / nurse-midwifery education program is eligible to apply for one silver and one golden commendation, and receive a framed certificate and copy of the ACNM poster “The Heart of Midwifery”. Applicants should send a description to their ACNM Regional Representative specifying how the service / education program meets the following criteria:

Services

  1. ACNM membership: all CNM and CM staff are members of the ACNM;
  2. longevity: the service is at least 10 years old or more than 20 years old;
  3. nnovativeness: the service offers unique programs for women;
  4. expanded access to care: the service has engaged in community outreach efforts;
  5. education: the service has participated in the teaching / precepting of midwifery students for at
  6. least 50% of the time the service has been open; and
  7. “The Heart of Midwifery” permeates the practice.

Education Programs

  1. ACNM membership: all CNM and CM faculty are members of the ACNM;
  2. longevity: the program is at least 10 years old or more than 20 years old;
  3. innovativeness: the program has examples of innovative methods of midwifery education;
  4. increased access to midwifery education: the program has diversified its applicant pool;
  5. service: the faculty and students have participated in community outreach efforts to increase access to care for women; and
  6. The Heart of Midwifery” permeates the curriculum

Who Decides

The regional representatives and the ACNM President will decide if each applying practice is eligible. Be sure to provide contact information and the exact time of the service as it should appear on the certificate.

Instructions for Regional Representatives

Once you receive the application, if you believe they meet the criteria, send the application to ACNM President Kitty Ernst for confirmation. Then, please send all of the information to Barbara Bost, who will take care of mailing the certificate and framed poster.
